Commissioned Project for the Kingdom of Bahrain
Concept
“SMS to Mohamed Bin Faris” is a site-specific and interactive installation reflecting on the idea of meeting with a friend or acquaintance after a long time and catching up on news and personal events. The installation starts with 818 paper rocket messages made of old newspapers sent to Mohamed Bin Faris monthly between the time of his death in November 1947 and the opening of the exhibition “15/15” in December 2016. The messages selected by the artist Faisal Samra reflect major and minor political and personal events that occurred in this time period.
Visitors are then invited to participate and continue this event and share their own news in the form of messages to Mohamed Bin Faris indefinitely.
